Youth Time Banking

Global Letter Writers Exchange

The YTB Global Letter Writers Exchange (GLWE) is a project of Youth TimeBanking Global. YTB is a small, US-based, virtual 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides youth with service opportunities through its network of community organizations. YTB is timebanking customized for youth, a program of giving and receiving where youth earn YTB time credits for their service contributions. YTB is a youth-adult partnership in which each youth develops strengths, makes community connections, and experiences something bigger than themselves.

The Global Letter Writers Exchange began in April 2022 with students at a rural community school in Mukono, Uganda and middle school students in Middlebury, Connecticut. Other schools in Mukono are joining the project. In the upcoming school year, we expect to add a high school in the Ger District of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. We hope to offer an opportunity for some students to exchange letters in Spanish, as well. Youth are involved with YTB in St. Petersburg, Florida, Monmouth County, NJ, Southbury, CT, Queenhythe, Jamaica, Mukono-Kampala, Uganda, Yaoundé, Cameroon, and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

YTB is a youth-adult partnership of community reciprocity.  Interested adults are also involved with the GLWE and write letters to a school class, introduce the students to Haiku poetry, and participate in YTB Wordle to learn about Timebanking through the YTB Reciprocity Times newsletter and YTB’s LinkedIn page. GLWE news is being posted on the YTB Facebook page, YTB Instagram, and YTB Twitter.
